Call for Applications: Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs

Dear Colleagues,
 
As you know, Barbara Lee’s last day as Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs was June 30. As a newcomer to the University, I have quickly learned how valuable Barbara has been to Rutgers, how many critical initiatives she has led, and how much she will be missed. Barbara led efforts that will have profound and lasting effects on the University, including sexual harassment prevention, enhancing faculty diversity, and building on our strengths in the humanities. Dick Edwards has generously agreed to steer the office until we select a permanent successor to lead Academic Affairs. An incoming president could not ask for better counsel and wisdom than what Barbara and Dick have already been providing to me.
 
I am writing to you today with a call for applications and nominations for the position of Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. In this internal search, qualified candidates will have the breadth of administrative experience, equal commitments to our academic mission and to diversity and inclusion, and unquestionable character needed to build upon and expand our university’s academic strengths.
 
The Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs (EVPAA) is the chief academic officer of Rutgers. I will seek a partner to fill this role who can establish academic strategy, develop academic initiatives, and ensure the coordination of academic priorities across the central administrative offices and the chancellor-led units.

Because of the importance of this office and the unique environment we find ourselves in for Fall 2020, this search will aim to move very quickly, with applications for the position due by July 24.
