CAMDEN – A series of free lectures at Rutgers–Camden will celebrate Women’s History Month in March.

At 12:20 p.m. in the Faculty Lounge, located on the third floor of Armitage Hall, Meghan Gillen, an assistant professor of psychology at Penn State-Abington, will discuss “Adolescent Boys’ and Girls’ Body Image: Relations to Perceptions of Peer Ideals.” A reception will follow the talk.

Monday, March 8

At 4:30 p.m. in the Faculty Lounge, located on the fourth floor of the new Law School East building, Susan Miller, an assistant professor of childhood studies at Rutgers–Camden, will discuss “Mothers of Radium, Daughters of Science.” Miller is the author of Growing Girls: The Natural Origins of Girls Organizations in America (Rutgers, 2007).

Wednesday, March 24

At 12:20 p.m. in the Faculty Lounge, located on the third floor of Armitage Hall, Holly Blackford, an associate professor of English at Rutgers-Camden, will discuss "Persephone in the Twilight Zone of Divorce: Lost Child, Underworld Queen in Stephenie Meyer's Adaption of Emily Bronte." Complimentary lunch will be provided.

At 4:30 p.m. in the Faculty Lounge, located on the third floor of Armitage Hall, Heather Munro Prescott, a professor of history at Central Connecticut State University, will discuss “Courageous Volunteers: The Origins of Emergency Contraception in the United States during the 1960s.” She is the author of Student Bodies: The Impact of Student Health on American Society and Medicine and A Doctor of Their Own, which received the Will Solimene Award of Excellence in Medical Communication from the New England Chapter, American Medical Writers Association. 

Tuesday, March 30

At 12:30 p.m. in the Faculty Lounge, located on the third floor of Armitage Hall, Jennifer Parker, an undergraduate women’s studies major at Rutgers–Camden, will discuss “From Blaming the ‘Refrigerator Mother’ to Exploring Neurobiology: Mental Health Professionals and Autism, 1940-1978.” Complimentary lunch will be provided.

Wednesday, March 31

From 4 to 6 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room of the Campus Center, the panel discussion “Successful Women: Shattering the Glass Ceiling” will feature six speakers from various industries, including Selena Rezvani, author of the book The Next Generation of Women Leaders, on the diverse and unique challenges that women face in their professions. This free event is sponsored by the Beta Alpha Psi honor society at the Rutgers School of Business–Camden.
