Who: Journalist Peter L. Bergen, author of several books on Osama bin Laden and the war on terror, including Manhunt: The Ten-Year Search for Bin Laden – from 9/11 to Abbottabad (Crown, 2012); The Longest War: The Enduring Conflict Between America and Al-Qaeda (Free Press, 2011); The Osama bin Laden I Know: An Oral History of al Qaeda’s Leader (Free Press, 2006); and Holy War, Inc.: Inside the Secret World of Osama bin Laden (Free Press, 2001); members of the Rutgers Living History Society; Richard L. Edwards, executive vice president of academic affairs and interim chancellor of Rutgers University-New Brunswick; faculty and students.

Background: The Stephen E. Ambrose Oral History Award is given by the Rutgers Living History Society to an author or artist who has made significant use of oral history. The Society consists of people who have given their oral histories to the Rutgers Oral History Archives. Peter Bergen joins such luminaries as Michael Beschloss, Tom Brokaw, Steven Spielberg, Studs Terkel, Ken Burns, David Isay, Rick Atkinson and Isabel Wilkerson in receiving the award.
