Rutgers–Newark Law School Special Education Clinic Partners With CVS to Present Early Childhood Health Fairs
NEWARK, NJ – The Special Education Clinic at Rutgers School of Law–Newark, with the generous support of the CVS Caremark Charitable Trust, is hosting two Early Childhood Health Fairs in April 2011. The first is on April 2 in Passaic and the second on April 16 in Vineland. The health fairs aim to improve knowledge of early childhood development and awareness of and access to available resources, focusing particularly on young children with disabilities and their families.
The Special Education Clinic/CVS partnership is just one of the many innovative ways SEC law and social work students, under the supervision of Clinical Professors Esther Canty-Barnes, SEC Director, and Jennifer Rosen Valverde, are educating parents and others involved in the lives of children with disabilities about their legal rights and responsibilities, and connecting children and families with community resources and supports.
The Early Childhood Health Fairs will offer information on federal, state and local area resources and services available to promote the healthy development and well-being of young children. Rutgers students and community volunteers will run health-related arts and crafts tables, read stories to the children, and provide other entertainment. More than 20 service providers/programs will be represented at the fairs, including:
