An estimated 17,916 graduates will receive degrees, certificates and diplomas from Rutgers this year (13,133 from Rutgers University-New Brunswick and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences; 3,123 from Rutgers University-Newark, and 1,660 from Rutgers University-Camden). They include approximately 11,237 baccalaureate degrees, 4,699 master’s degrees, 1,898 doctorates (including professional doctorates), 82 professional certificates. Since its founding in 1766, Rutgers has awarded 711,274 academic degrees (excluding the 2024–2025 estimated total).

Peter Seligmann, Rutgers alumnus, first-generation American and an influential voice in conservation, will address graduates at the 259th anniversary commencement of Rutgers University-New Brunswick and Rutgers Health.

Honorary degrees will be awarded to pioneering social entrepreneur Rajiv Vinnakota and Laurie Patton, president of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences.

Rutgers University-Camden will hold the Rutgers University–Camden and Graduate School Commencement on Monday, May 13, 2023, at the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion. Award-winning multidisciplinary artist Mickalene Thomas will deliver the keynote address at the ceremony, where she will also receive an honorary doctor of fine arts degree.

Actor and comedian Ramy Youssef will be the keynote speaker at Rutgers University–Newark’s May 22 commencement ceremony at the Prudential Center, where he will also receive an honorary doctor of fine arts degree.
