Rutgers Scarlet Service in Washington, DC provides public service summer internship experiences to students at government offices and nonprofit organizations while expanding their knowledge and skills to be engaged citizens.
Where Can I Search for Internships and Career Opportunities?
Rutgers Handshake is the main platform for all things related to career success. Students can utilize Handshake to access thousands of job and internship listings, schedule appointments with career advisers, network with recruiters, register for career events, and much more.
Over 70,000 internships and co-op experiences were posted in Handshake between 2024-2025. Students are encouraged to create an account early in their college journey and take advantage of Rutgers' career enhancing resources.
Experiential Learning: More Than Internships
While internships and employment are goals of many students upon graduation, some prefer additional field experiences or continuing education. According to the Class of 2025 post-graduation survey, 82% of students who participated in at least one experiential learning* opportunity achieved a positive career outcome**.
*Experiential learning opportunities include internships, co-ops, clinical/hospital rotation, graduate assistantship, field placement, student teaching, or academic research/lab projects.
**Positive career outcome is defined as employed full-time or part-time, enrolled in a program of continuing education, serving in the military, or participating in a volunteer or service program.
