
The Paul Robeson Library at Rutgers University–Camden and the Nilsa Cruz-Perez Downtown Branch of the Camden County Library will present free, public screenings of an award-winning documentary chronicling the history of Latinos in the United States from the 16th century to the present day.
Episodes of the six-part PBS documentary, Latino Americans: 500 Years of History, will be presented from Saturday, Sept. 12, to Tuesday, Oct. 13, in the Nilsa Cruz-Perez Downtown Branch on the Rutgers–Camden campus.
The series will begin with a screening of “Episode 1: Foreigners in Their Own Land” at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12.
The remaining screenings will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesdays, as follows:
Sept. 15: “Episode 2: Empire of Dreams”
Sept. 22: “Episode 3: War and Peace”
Sept. 29: “Episode 4: The New Latinos”
Oct. 6: “Episode 5: Prejudice and Pride”
Oct. 13: “Episode 6: Peril and Promise”

Lorrin Thomas, chair of the Department of History and an associate professor of history at Rutgers–Camden, will lead a discussion of episodes 3 and 4, and Gloria Bonilla-Santiago, a Board of Governors Distinguished Service Professor of Public Policy and Administration at Rutgers–Camden, will lead a discussion of the final episode.
