To the Campus Community:

As you certainly have noticed, the Cooper Street skyline is changing quickly as work on the new 12-story housing facility for graduate students progresses smoothly.

When completed next summer, the new facility will accommodate 350 graduate students, and will introduce 7,000 square feet of new retail activity to our campus and our neighborhood.

At 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 19, Rutgers–Camden will celebrate the completion of the steelwork comprising the framework of the building with a topping-off ceremony.  It is my hope that you will join us at the Gateway glass sculpture at Fourth and Cooper Sts. as we mark the end of one phase of this project, and move closer to our goal of welcoming still more students as residents on our campus.

Demand for a Rutgers–Camden education – a personalized approach combined with all the attributes of the world-class Rutgers experience – continues to rise on the undergraduate and graduate levels.  When this new housing facility opens in August 2012, Rutgers–Camden will be able to attract and serve more students from across New Jersey and the world.

Certainly, our efforts to enhance all aspects of campus life are continuous.  Later this month, we will complete the installation of new windows throughout several floors of the Rutgers–Camden Tower.  A new, state-of-the-art student computing facility is open on the main level of the Paul Robeson Library.  By consolidating our smaller labs into this one location, we have been able to convert space into much-needed classrooms, which adds flexibility to our course scheduling.

I welcome your thoughts and opinions on all matters related to the growth of Rutgers–Camden, and encourage you to email me directly.

This project is yet another reason to be excited about Rutgers–Camden.   I hope that you will be able to join me during this important occasion.
