Hon. Lee Hamilton to Discuss “U.S. Role in the World After 9/11, Afghanistan and Iraq” at Rutgers–Newark Law School on October 13
NEWARK, NJ – Former U.S. Congressman Lee H. Hamilton, who was vice chair of the 9/11 Commission, will present “The U.S. Role in the World After 9/11, Afghanistan and Iraq” at 6 pm on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at Rutgers School of Law–Newark. Hamilton is the 2011-2012 Clifford P. Case Professor of Public Affairs at the Rutgers Eagleton Institute of Politics.
During his 34-years representing Indiana’s ninth district, Hamilton chaired several committees including the House Committee on Foreign Affairs (now the Committee on International Relations), the Subcommittee on Europe and the Middle East, the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and the Select Committee to Investigate Covert Arms Transactions with Iran. Besides his role on the 9/11 Commission, he was the co-chair, with former Secretary of State James A. Baker III, of the Iraq Study Group organized by the U.S. Institute of Peace. He is director of the Center on Congress at Indiana University.
Clifford P. Case, who represented New Jersey’s 6th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives (1945–1953) and the State of New Jersey in the U.S. Senate (1955–1979), graduated from Rutgers College in 1925. In 1980, the Rutgers Board of Governors voted to establish the Clifford P. Case Professorship of Public Affairs to recognize his service to New Jersey in Congress during which “he consistently put principles above politics” and earned “the deserved reputation of having a profound sense of integrity.”
