CAMDEN — Instead of hitting the beach this July, a group of budding entrepreneurs will be learning what it takes to run their own business during a highly competitive camp at Rutgers–Camden.
“BizEd: Building Business Leaders” is a two-week summer camp at the Rutgers School of Business–Camden designed to prepare a select group of high school seniors for the rigors of collegiate business education. It runs July 9 to 20.
This year, Rutgers–Camden is for the first time also opening BizEd’s doors to rising high school juniors, who will participate in the 8-day “Introduction to BizEd: Building the Best of ‘You’ for Business” program from July 24 to Aug. 2.
For the first session, 50 outstanding rising high school seniors from Burlington, Camden, and Gloucester counties will be introduced to theory and practice of accounting, finance, management, marketing, and technology. The camp is designed to spark creativity and develop decision-making skills.
Students will meet leading executives, visit local companies, and participate in team building and problem solving activities. A graduation ceremony will be held July 20.
The second session, for 25 rising high school juniors, is a new program in which students will participate in interactive exercises to increase their confidence, realize their potential, and develop their leadership skills. Topics will include “Dressing for Success,” “Social Media Savvy,” “Time Management,” “Personal Branding,” and “New Product Development.”
“The BizEd program provides a balanced view of business education that is lacking in most of the nation’s high school,” says Jaishankar Ganesh, dean of the Rutgers School of Business–Camden. “BizEd is a creative way to better prepare teenagers for success in college and throughout their lives.”
This summer marks the 12th anniversary of the BizEd camp. Since 2001, more than 300 top high school students have gone through the program.
The following students, listed alphabetically by high school, are participating in the BizEd program. Hometowns are indicated where needed. An asterisk denotes high school juniors enrolled in Session 2.
