This summer Arsany Makkar fulfilled his dream to climb Mount Kilimanjaro with the help of Choose a Challenge, a European-based travel organization that connects college students with international development agencies in need of funds and volunteers. James Simon, professor of plant biology in the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, and his colleagues, created four new varieties of basil that have the aroma and flavor we expect minus the downy mildew that sends the plants to the trash. The seeds are on sale to commercial farmers to grow a more hearty variety of the popular herb.

Cole as the first holder of the Embrace Kids Foundation Chair in Pediatric Hematology Oncology, appointed Suhayl Dhib-Jalbut to a chair in Multiple Sclerosis, named John Kuo Wei Tchen as the first holder of the Clement A.
