FORMER GOV. TOM KEAN TO DISCUSS POLITICS, MONEY AND ETHICS

WHAT:

Politics, Money and Ethics, a free public lecture that is part of the Arthur J. Holland Program on Ethics in Government hosted by the Center for Government Services (CGS) at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey

WHO:

Thomas H. Kean, two-term governor of New Jersey from 1982 to 1990, and president of Drew University from 1990 to 2005. Kean was appointed chair of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States by President George W. Bush in the aftermath of the

9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. He served from 2002 to 2004. He also was chair of the commissions nonprofit successor, the 9/11 Public Discourse Project. Kean was the 13th Clifford Case Professor of Public Affairs at Rutgers and also the principal speaker at the universitys 240th annual commencement in 2006. CGS Director Stuart Meck will introduce Kean and members of the Holland family.

BACKGROUND: The Arthur J. Holland Program on Ethics in Government was established in 1989 by then-President of Rutgers Edward J. Bloustein to honor the distinguished alumnus and longtime mayor of Trenton. Holland was a proponent and practitioner of open, responsive and ethical government. The Holland Ethics Lecture focuses on ethical issues that arise in the context of running state and local government.

As part of the Holland Program, CGS will host the session Ethical Pitfalls in Public Service, at the New Jersey State League of Municipalities Conference Wednesday, Nov. 14, 10:45 a.m., Room 408-09 at the Atlantic City Convention Center. Christopher J. Christie, United States attorney, District of New Jersey; state Attorney General Anne Milgram; and League General Counsel William J. Kearns Jr. will be panelists.
