CAMDEN Ronaldo Parente, an assistant professor of management at the Rutgers University School of Business at Camden, has been selected to receive the 2006 Sereia de Ouro Award, a highly prestigious international honor.

A resident of West Deptford, Parente, 44, is the youngest individual to ever receive this award.

The Sereia de Ouro Award is presented annually to four individuals who have contributed significantly to the overall economic and social development of the state of Ceara in Brazil. Presented by the Sistema Verdes Mares de Comunicacao, a media network subsidiary of Brazils Edison Queiroz Group, the award is one the highest commendations in Ceara.

Parente was selected for the honor on the basis of his entrepreneurial work in both Brazil and the United States, where he launched successful business ventures in tourism, construction, restaurant, and consulting prior to pursuing a full-time academic career. Through his efforts while working for the Banco do Nordeste (Northeast Development Bank of Brazil), the state of Ceara received a $1.6 billion loan that has helped to build its tourism industry into one of Brazils strongest. His research continues to offer new insights into the Brazilian automobile and software industries.

During 1995-96, Parente designed and coordinated the first graduate program in international financial management at the Universidade Estadual Ceara.

Parente will receive the Seira de Ouro Award during a special ceremony in Brazil on Sept. 29.

Ronaldo Parentes accomplishment clearly is a well-deserved personal triumph, and it is representative of the exemplary character of the faculty at Rutgers-Camden, says Mitchell P. Koza, dean of the Rutgers University School of Business at Camden. Business growth must be international as well as regional, and Dr. Parentes unique experiences and research provide a competitive edge for undergraduate and MBA students at Rutgers-Camden.

A native of Fortaleza, the capitol of Ceara, Parente moved to the United States in 1997 and joined the Rutgers-Camden faculty in 2005. An expert in global strategy, international entrepreneurship, and supply chain management, he teaches courses in Business Policy and Strategic Management, International Business Environment, and Management of Multinational Businesses.

Parente received his doctoral degree from Temple University in 2003; his MBA from the University of Tampa in 1993; and his bachelors degree in civil engineering from the University of Fortaleza in Brazil in 1986.

In 2004, Parente was a finalist in the 2004 Farmer Best Dissertation Award at the Academy of International Business in Stockholm.

His research regularly appears in influential international scholarly journals, such as the top-ranked Journal of International Business Studies, which recently accepted two of his coauthored research articles.

Parente resides in West Deptford with his wife, Glice Parente, and his son, Paulo 11.
