Summer Session Open to College and HS Students, Community Members

(Newark, N.J., May 9, 2008) – Where some simply see fun in the sun, others see golden opportunity. Increasing numbers of enterprising college and high school students, as well as individuals interested in career advancement or personal development, are taking advantage of summer college sessions such as those offered at Rutgers in Newark.

The Office of Summer and Winter Sessions at Rutgers-Newark (http://summer.newark.rutgers.edu) will be offering both day and evening courses, at the undergraduate and graduate level, in nearly 40 fields of study, ranging from business to economics to mathematics.  A few online courses are available, and many others are web-enhanced, utilizing the Blackboard Course Management System.  Summer sessions run May 27-Aug. 13.  Registration deadlines are available online at: http://summer.newark.rutgers.edu/regcal.php.  Tuition for summer session is on a per-credit basis; see http://summer.newark.rutgers.edu/tuition.php for details.

Courses are available to visiting students from any college, and to non-students.  Students enrolled at other colleges are able to transfer Rutgers credits to their home institutions.  For high-achieving high school students, the Rutgers-Newark Summer Scholars Program offers a chance to get a head-start on their college education and an early exposure to the college experience.

Summer session classes meet at an average of four times per week in small classes, allowing both instructor and student more one-on-one time, and closer interaction with peers.  All students enrolled in summer session are given full access to campus facilities such as its libraries, the Paul Robeson Campus Center, computer labs, and the Golden Dome Athletic Center, which includes a pool, tennis courts, 7,000-square-foot fitness center and racquetball courts.
