More than 300 activities already planned for April 25 event
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Student organizations are invited to help Rutgers roll out the “scarlet carpet” and welcome the people of New Jersey to the first-ever Rutgers Day, slated for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, April 25, on the university’s campuses in New Brunswick and Piscataway.
Rutgers Day organizers will participate in the Spring Student Involvement Fair Wednesday, Jan. 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rutgers Student Center. At that time, student clubs and organizations can learn more about hosting a program and individuals can volunteer to help out with the event.
“Student organizations are central to campus life at Rutgers,” said Carla Yanni, assistant vice president for undergraduate academic affairs, and chair of the Rutgers Day advisory committee. “Rutgers Day offers an opportunity for student groups and clubs to showcase their activities to a broad audience.”
More than 300 events, including performances, lectures, hands-on science, tours and children’s programs have been scheduled in addition to the traditional activities of the folk festival and Ag Field Day. For example, visitors can attend a fashion show (circa 29 B.C.) staged by the Classics Department, experience Rutgers Day in “Second Life,” learn how to harness the power of herbs and medicinal plants, and challenge their dogs with the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen Test.
Student organizations are invited to host programs and set up tables to promote their activities to Rutgers Day visitors. Several student groups, including the Livingston Theater Company, Undergraduate Food Science Club, Rutgers Chinese Dance Troupe and Alpha Phi Alpha “Ice Cold” Brothers are among the student groups that have registered to participate.
To help student organizations develop programming and plan their participation in the event, the Rutgers Day committee will offer workshops Tuesday, Feb. 17, 8 to 9 p.m. in Room 411 of the Rutgers Student Center and Thursday, Feb. 19, 6 to 7 p.m. in Room 122 of the Busch Campus Center.
