Courses range from chemistry to hip-hop, creative writing to web design
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Design a web site, start a novel, learn hip-hop or solve a crime. With these hands-on activities and more, SPARK – Summer Program at Rutgers for Kids – is designed to stoke the diverse interests of motivated young people entering grades four through eight.

Registration is underway for SPARK’s 2012 four-week summer session, which runs July 9-Aug. 3. Daily sessions are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with early drop-off and late pickup available at no extra charge. Lunch and snacks are included.
Campers attend four courses each day, Monday through Thursday, and have an on- or off-campus field trip on Fridays. Class size is limited to 15 students.
Campers in two groups – grades four through six and grades seven and eight – each have a selection of eight different courses. Honors classes for students are offered for campers entering grades seven and eight, who meet certain academic criteria.
This summer’s offerings include courses in math, art, creative writing, crime scene investigation, photography, science, dance and graphic art.
SPARK’s faculty and staff are middle- and high school teachers, college and graduate students, who bring special skills, talents and experience to their subject areas. They also have considerable experience interacting with children of all ages in a camp environment.
Tuition for SPARK is $1,600 for the entire four-week session, or $400 per week. Campers may register for one to four weeks. Tuition covers books, lunch and snacks. For more information, go online to spark.rutgers.edu, call 732-932-1800 or 732-932-7922, or send email to spark1@rci.rutgers.edu.
