Registration for fall 2011 to begin this month

NEW BRUNSWICK – Working adults looking to jump start their careers or gain new skills and knowledge, and college students attending other institutions can take courses on campus or online during the fall and spring semesters at Rutgers University through the Visiting Student Program administered by the Division of Continuing Studies.

The Rutgers Visiting Student Program offers the opportunity for graduate and undergraduate study on a nondegree basis at the university during the regular academic year. Visiting students enroll through the Division of Continuing Studies and attend classes and complete coursework alongside matriculated Rutgers students. Tuition and fees are billed per credit hour.

Courses are open to visiting students on a space-available basis on campus and online. Visiting students may attend classes on the Camden, New Brunswick and Newark campuses and at Rutgers’ satellite facilities in Freehold, North Branch and Mays Landing. High school students also may take classes as visiting students if they meet certain requirements.

Registration for visiting students takes place during the last week of August and prior to the start of classes. Availability of classes is dependent on space. Prerequisites and other requirements may apply. For more information, go online to http://visiting.rutgers.edu, call 732-932-7922, or email rcs@dceo.rutgers.edu.

Visiting students attend classes, complete assignments and receive grades just as matriculated students do. They will have a course transcript on record with the University Registrar. Visiting Students have access to all university resources, including libraries, computer centers, academic support services and recreation centers. They are responsible for observing academic policies and purchasing their own books and supplies.

Registration is not guaranteed and is contingent on space availability and/or departmental approval. Transferability of credits is solely determined by the institution students have applied to or in which they are matriculated. Registering for courses as a visiting student through Rutgers Continuing Studies does not guarantee acceptance into any academic program offered at Rutgers. High school students must meet certain requirements and may not accumulate more than 14 credits as visiting students.
