A series of events will celebrate women of character, courage, and commitment at Rutgers University–Camden throughout Women’s History Month in March.
Wednesday, March 5
A lecture, titled “Combating Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Women,” will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the South ABC Conference Room, located on the lower level of the Campus Center. Speakers are Mary de Fusco, director of training and recruitment for the Defender Association of Philadelphia; Anne Marie Jones, a graduate of Project Dawn Court and a current mentor for Dawn’s Place; and Sr. Terry Shields of the Missionary Sisters of the Holy Rosary.
Thursday, March 6
A seminar on personal branding will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in room 106 of the Law School Complex. Speakers are Heather Suarez, a partner at the law firm of Walder, Hayden & Brogan; Sayde Ladov, a partner at the law firm of Dolchin, Slotkin & Todd, and former chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association; Lloyd Freeman, an associate at the law firm of Archer & Greiner; and Leo M. Mulvihill, a partner at the law firm of Mulivill & Rushie.
Monday, March 10
Wendy Woloson, an assistant professor of history, will deliver a lecture, titled “Stags, Nags and Gags: Joking and Gender in the Early 20th Century,” at 6 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room, located on the main level of the Campus Center.
Wednesday, March 12
Keith Green, an assistant professor of English, will deliver a lecture, titled “Indentured Servants, Sickly Children, and Invalid Women: Claiming Disability in Harriet Wilson's Our Nig (1859),” at 1:20 p.m. in room 124 on the main level of Armitage Hall.
Monday, March 24
Cathy D’Ignazio, a part-time lecturer of history, will deliver a lecture, titled “Competition: American Women and Their Sports,” at 1:20 p.m. in room 121 on the main level of Armitage Hall.
Wednesday, March 26
Students in the master of fine arts program in creative writing will present a reading, titled “Radical Women Reading: Women of Character, Courage & Commitment,” at 7 p.m. in the South ABC Conference Room, located on the lower level of the Campus Center.
A “Women in History” photo booth will be set up from 12:10 to 1:20 p.m. in the Raptor Roost, located on the lower level of the Campus Center. Guests are invited to dress up in period attire and have their photos taken with props showcasing famous women in history.
Monday, March 31
Filmmaker Lourdes Portillo will present a screening of her documentary, “Senorita Extraviada, Missing Young Women,” at 6:30 p.m. in the Executive Meeting Room, located on the lower level of the Campus Center. Courtenay Cavanaugh, an assistant professor of psychology, will lead a discussion to follow.
