New Brunswick, NJ – The Rutgers University Alumni Association will induct five prominent and accomplished alumni into the Hall of Distinguished Alumni at the annual awards gala on May 1 at the Mason Gross Art Galleries and The Heldrich in New Brunswick. The 2010 honorees are:

•     Douglas P. Boyd – Graduate School-New Brunswick, ’68

Douglas P. Boyd

Boyd is an accomplished businessman and scientist. As CEO of TeleSecurity Sciences Inc., his research has influenced entire branches of radiology and medical imaging, as well as the security industry. Boyd is one of the pioneers of fan-beam CT technology; a scanning process used in healthcare diagnosis, and is the founder of several other technology companies, including Imatron and InVision Technologies. He is the holder of 13 U.S. patents, with several others pending. Boyd resides in Las Vegas.

•     Greg Brown – Livingston College, ’82

Greg Brown
Brown is co-chief executive officer of Motorola Inc. and chief executive officer of Motorola’s Broadband Mobility Solutions business. During his tenure, Motorola has been honored as a “Best Diversity Company” by Diversity/Careers in Engineering and Technology. Prior to joining Motorola in 2003, Brown was Chairman and CEO of Micromuse, Inc, a company that offered solutions for managing and monitoring information technology infrastructure. During his four-year tenure there, the business saw profits rise nearly 500 percent. Brown is a native of Highland Park and a member of the Rutgers University Foundation Board of Overseers. He lives in Chicago.

•     Junot Díaz – Rutgers College, ’92

Junot Diaz

Díaz was awarded the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for his novel, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. The book also garnered a National Book Critics Circle Award, and Dayton Literary Peace Prize. His other prominent work is a collection of short stories called Drown (1996). The New Yorker listed Díaz as one of the 20 top writers for the 21st century. He is currently an associate professor for the Program in Writing and Humanistic Studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Díaz resides in Cambridge, Mass.

•     Alfred A. Edmond Jr. – Rutgers College, ‘83

Alfred A. Edmond Jr.
Edmond is senior vice president/editor-in-chief of BlackEnterprise.com. He sits on the Black Enterprise editorial board and is also responsible for helping to set and enforce quality standards for the editorial content of the major franchises of Black Enterprise. Edmond joined Black Enterprise in 1987 as an associate editor. Before joining the magazine, Edmond served

as the senior editor of MBM/Modern Black Men Magazine and as an associate editor of the Daily Challenge. A nationally recognized expert on business and economic trends, Edmond appears regularly on television and nationally syndicated radio, and is a highly sought-after public speaker. He lives in West Orange.

•     Margaret Marsh – Camden College of Arts and Sciences, ’67, Graduate School-New Brunswick, ’69 and ’74

Margaret Marsh

Marsh is dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and the Graduate School of Rutgers-Camden. She served as interim chancellor of Rutgers-Camden from 2007-2009. Marsh is also a University Professor of history, teaching both graduate and undergraduate students. Marsh is internationally renowned for her expertise in the fields of women’s and gender history, American cultural history and the connections between gender and medicine. She is the author of four books including, most recently, The Fertility Doctor: John Rock and the Reproductive Revolution, a biography written with her sister, Wanda Ronner, on the “father” of the birth control pill. Marsh resides in Haddonfield.

The new honorees bring the number of distinguished alumni honored by Rutgers to over 200. Notable members include U.S. District Court Judge Leonie Brinkema, chef and restaurateur Mario Batali, actor James Gandolfini, author Janet Evanovich, the late actor and humanitarian Paul Robeson, and Nobel Prize winners Selman Waksman and Milton Friedman.

The Rutgers Hall of Distinguished Alumni Awards Gala will feature entertainment by Tribeca Rhythm, multimedia presentations, dinner, and dancing. Alumnus Luke Visconti will be the master of ceremonies. Visconti is the CEO of DiversityInc and a 2007 inductee to the Hall of Distinguished Alumni.

The cocktail reception will begin at 6 p.m. at the Mason Gross Galleries at Civic Square, 33 Livingston Ave., followed by the induction ceremony and dinner at 7 p.m. at The Heldrich, 10 Livingston Ave.
