NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. –  To help New Jersey’s public leaders transform how they communicate and engage citizens in the public policy process, Rutgers’ Center for Executive Leadership in Government (CELG) will sponsor a workshop on the effective use of social media in the public sector.

CELG, with its co-sponsor, the National Association of Government Webmasters, will present “Utilizing Social Media in the Public Sector: Lessons Learned, Strategies for the Future” Tuesday, March 29, at Thomas Edison State College, Trenton. The three-hour workshop starts at 3 p.m. in Prudence Hall, 101 W. State Street.

The program will focus on case studies to provide attendees with strategies to communicate with internal and external audiences as well as to develop best practices for using social media use and measuring effectiveness. Experts also will offer insight into appropriate tools to engage citizens and promote an organization’s brand and to use social media for emergency notification and management.

“We will present dynamic case studies, lessons learned and best practices for using social technologies that can make communication and engagement with the public easier and faster,” said Leila Sadeghi, assistant professor at CELG. “Social media provides government with mechanisms for relaying information, measuring public opinion and informing public policy.”

The workshop fee is $199. To register, click here. For additional information, contact Sadeghi at adeghle@docs.rutgers.edu or 732-932-6998, ext. 609.
