RUTGERS TO HOST EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT EXERCISE

WHO:

Bruce J. Kaplan, Middlesex County Prosecutor; Freeholder Christopher D. Rafano, Chair, Middlesex County Law and Public Safety Committee; Jay Kohl, executive director, Rutgers Division of Public Safety; and representatives of local law enforcement and emergency services and the National Guard

WHAT:

A major emergency management exercise involving the university, Middlesex County and Township of Piscataway law enforcement personnel with assistance from the New Jersey National Guard. Officials will give a briefing to the media prior to the start of the exercise.

WHEN:

The morning of Wednesday, July 25, 2007.

WHERE:

A media briefing will be held at 9 a.m. Members of the media should gather in Parking Lot 101 behind Kilmer Library on the Livingston Campus in Piscataway for the briefing. For directions to Kilmer Library, go to http://maps.rutgers.edu/building.aspx?id=177.

BACKGROUND: The Livingston Campus of Rutgers University will be the site of a major emergency management exercise. As part of this simulation, Rutgers police and emergency services personnel will work in cooperation with the Middlesex County Prosecutors Office, the Middlesex County Office of Emergency Management, the Piscataway Police Department and elements of the New Jersey National Guard.
