NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Rutgers Business School-Newark and New Brunswick and Rutgers Summer Session-New Brunswick have teamed to introduce a Business Fundamentals Summer Certificate Program for nonmajors and graduates without business degrees.

Four courses will comprise the new program, and each has at least one prerequisite (in parentheses): Introduction to Financial Accounting (sophomore standing), Principles of Management and Introduction to Marketing (Microeconomics and Macroeconomics for each course), and Introduction to Financial Management (Calculus or by special permission).

“We are excited about this new program because we recognize that many ‘nonbusiness’ professions, such as doctors, lawyers, psychologists and nonprofit directors, to name several, require some business acumen for success,” said Martin Markowitz, business school dean. “During a single summer, individuals can learn the essentials in these four areas. Students also have the option to apply them all toward a business degree at Rutgers or use them to prepare for an MBA program.”

Rutgers Summer Session runs May 31 through Aug. 17 in three sessions, May 31 to July 8, June 27 to Aug. 4 and July 11 to Aug. 17. Registration for all sessions recently opened. Specific courses geared to high school students are available in the second and third sessions.

Prior to registration, visiting students must check with their home school academic advisers or deans to confirm they have completed necessary prerequisite courses and that credits earned at Rutgers may be applied to their graduation requirements.
