CAMDEN --  Newark, Del. resident Paul C. Thornton has been named assistant dean for off-campus programs at Rutgers University—Camden.

In his new position, Thornton will be charged with broadening Rutgers–Camden’s portfolio of services by establishing online and varied-site programs for populations seeking higher education learning opportunities. 

Most recently, Thornton served as dean of adult studies at Wesley College in Dover, Del., where he developed off-campus programs and implemented online education modules. He also served as chair of the Department of Business Administration, where he was an associate professor. Previously, he worked in a variety of capacities for E.I. DuPont de Nemours and Company.

"Rutgers–Camden is strengthening its efforts to extend education opportunities to more individuals in need,” says Margaret Marsh, interim chancellor of Rutgers–Camden.  “We are confident that Paul has the experience and energy to address this demand that will contribute to the vitality of our campus and the region.”

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Thornton received his bachelor’s degree in applied science from Troy University in 1977; his master of business administration degree from the University of Rochester in 1978; and his doctor of education in education leadership from the University of Delaware in 2005.
