Rutgers–Camden students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends will celebrate the Charter Day of Queen’s College, the New Brunswick predecessor of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey with birthday cake, cut by the Camden campus' mascot the Scarlet Raptor.
The scarlet birthday party will be held at noon, Wednesday, Nov. 10 at The Corner convenience store, located within the Campus Center on Third Street, between Cooper Street and the Benjamin Franklin Bridge.
Across the campus, New Jersey, and the nation, Rutgers alums are encouraged to show their pride by wearing scarlet (Rutgers’s color) throughout the day.
Founded in 1766, Rutgers is older than the United States and is the nation’s eighth-oldest institution of higher education. Today, Rutgers has three campuses across the state (in Camden, Newark, and New Brunswick) and enrolls more than 50,000 students in undergraduate, master's, doctoral, and post-doctoral programs. Rutgers–Camden traces its roots to 1926, when its predecessor institution, the South Jersey Law School, was founded. The Camden Campus is celebrating an anniversary of its own: 60 years since it joined Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, in 1950.
