Brigadier General Flora D. Darpino Returns to Rutgers Law–Camden to Discuss Issues Related to Veterans and the Law on April 17

Darpino, who now serves as Commanding General, The Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School, will discuss her highly esteemed career and then participate in a moderated Q&A session. Colonel (Retired) Stephen G. Abel, U.S. Army, Rutgers’ Director of Veteran and Military Programs and Services, will serve as moderator.
A leader in the Army’s Rule of Law efforts in Iraq, Darpino deployed during the 2003 invasion and returned to Iraq, serving as the senior military attorney during the final stages of the war. After receiving a direct commission into the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps in 1987, she has held a variety of positions, including most recently completing an assignment as Commanding General, United States Army Legal Services Agency and Chief Judge, United States Army Court of Criminal Appeals.
She earned a bachelor’s degree from Gettysburg College and an LL.M. in military law from The Judge Advocate General’s School. A member of the New Jersey and Pennsylvania Bars, Darpino’s military education includes the Senior Service College Fellowship, Department of Justice; the Army Command and General Staff College; the Judge Advocate Officer Graduate Course; Combined Arms and Services Staff School; and the Judge Advocate Officer Basic Course.
Her awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with a Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, and the Iraqi Campaign Medal. She has also earned the Air Assault Badge and the Army Staff Identification Badge.
In 2012, she was inducted into the Rutgers Hall of Distinguished Alumni, the highest award Rutgers can bestow on an alumnus.
