The University Senate took the following actions at its December 1, 2006 meeting:

Ending annual appointments for nontenure-track faculty  The senate will recommend to President Richard L. McCormick the abolishment of limits on reappointing nontenure-track faculty (including instructors, lecturers, assistants, librarians, and research annuals). These faculty members are currently limited to three reappointments. The senate proposes appointing nontenure-track faculty to one- to three-year initial contractual appointments, and allowing for subsequent dean’s-level reviews for three year appointments after that. The senate also voted to recommend that Executive Vice President Philip Furmanski remind all academic units that annuals and tenure-track faculty are eligible for the Faculty Academic Service Increment Program, and that instructional and research annuals be made eligible to apply for internal and external grants.
