CAMDEN – From the city that revolutionized recorded music, continues a tradition in music appreciation with a free concert series on Wednesdays at Rutgers University—Camden.

The series, which begins at 12:15 p.m., has been providing live music in Camden, where RCA launched its phonograph among other radio and broadcast innovations, for a quarter of a century.

“For the past 25 years, the Mallery Concert Series has been a steadfast part of campus life, which not only enriches the cultural lives of students, faculty, and staff, but extends into Camden and regional communities as well,” notes Joseph Schiavo, Rutgers–Camden music program director, who began organizing the series in 2008 after its founder, Jerry Jerome, retired. “The series this spring features traditional and contemporary works performed by a variety of musicians from the metropolitan area.”

Diane Mattis of Havertown, Pa. has been a fan of the series since 1992. She estimates that she has attended more than 200 concerts at Rutgers–Camden.

“The music I heard, as well as the people I met, enriched my life in many ways,” recalls Mattis. “I still look forward with great anticipation to each series, knowing I will experience excellent performances of both vocal and instrumental music.”
