Titled “Who Invited Jesus?,” the play is written by “Sebastian” Cummings (CHERRY HILL), who also stars in the show with fellow 4SW founders Angela Harmon (MOUNT HOLLY) and Mike Fisher (DELRAN). The group, who performed in six main stage Rutgers–Camden productions together, premiered the original comedy about three roommates expecting a fourth at the Art Life Action Festival in January.
“We got a huge response at the festival and a real morale boost to take the next step and start our own company,” says Harmon, a 2009 Rutgers–Camden graduate. “We want to do this professionally. All three of us have the same goals to make theater our careers and our livelihoods.”
In addition to the stage production, 4SW has also launched a web series “Sebastian Ruins Your Day” to appeal to peers more into online, then on Broadway entertainment. “All our videos are completely improv. We come up with a game plan for a scene in advance, but then we just shoot and have fun with this toxic friend who basically ruins my day,” says Harmon of the series, now in its fifth episode.
4SW members credit their success to launch a company to faculty mentor Kenneth Elliott, an assistant professor of fine arts at Rutgers–Camden. “He has been an enormous help,” notes Harmon. “From calling him about how to set-up online ticket sales to finding theater space to over all moral support, Ken has helped us believe that this can be possible.” A play Elliot recently co-authored, “Devil Boys from Beyond,” was nominated for the Best New Play award by the Off Broadway Alliance.
Tickets for “Who Invited Jesus?” cost $10; more information about 4SW Entertainment is available on Facebook and YouTube. The Shubin Theater is located at Fourth and Bainbridge Streets in Philadelphia.
