Municipal, county officials and Rutgers scientists to meet for dialogue

WHAT: One-day conference on climate change and its implications for county and local governments in New Jersey 

WHEN: 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Thursday, April 1 

WHO: Scientists and environmental experts from Rutgers University and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, government officials from counties and municipalities in New Jersey 

WHERE: Sea Oaks Golf Course, 99 Golf View Drive, Little Egg Harbor Township, N.J. 

BACKGROUND: Climate change will have a profound impact on coastal communities and ecosystems. This conference will review the science-based information about local impacts of climate change, and then invite the participants to identify the vulnerabilities of their communities, their information needs and the barriers to adapting to climate change. The conference is co-sponsored by the Jacques Cousteau National Estuarine Research Reserve, managed by the Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences at Rutgers University, the Urban Coast Institute at Monmouth University, the Barnegat Bay National Estuary Program, and the Coastal Management Program of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
