Closes out "Remembering Childhood" series

CAMDEN — Internationally known illustrator David Diaz is coming to Rutgers–Camden on Wednesday, April 25 to close out the month-long “Remembering Childhood” lecture series featuring top authors and illustrators of children’s books.

The free event takes place from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. with a reception to follow.

Diaz’s vibrant illustrations can be found in numerous award-winning books for children, helping to visually convey stories like Smoky Night by Eve Bunting, for which he was awarded the Caldecott Medal.

His artwork can also be found in The Wanderer by Sharon Creech, for which he was awarded a Newbery Honor, and Me, Frida by Amy Novesky, a Pura Belpré Honor Award winner.

During his visit to Rutgers–Camden, Diaz will discuss his 25 years as an illustrator for children’s literature and share his experiences as a graphic designer, ceramic artist, and painter.

In coordination with the exhibitionLatino Folk Tales: Cuentos Populares – Art by Latino Artists” on display in the Stedman Gallery, “Remembering Childhood” brings artists from the exhibition and acclaimed children’s literature illustrators to campus and the larger community to share their perspectives on childhood as reflected in their work. The exhibit ends April 25.

“Remembering Childhood” is made possible with support from the Kurr Foundation and the departments of English and childhood studies on the Camden Campus of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.

The Stedman Gallery is located in the Fine Arts Complex on Third Street, between Cooper Street and the Benjamin Franklin Bridge on the Rutgers–Camden Campus.
