Lee Schneider, a three-time Rutgers alumnus who has had a long and distinguished career at the university, has been appointed to the position of executive director of the Rutgers Parents Association and senior adviser to the vice president for student affairs on student life issues.

As executive director, Schneider will serve as an advocate for parents and the university, both internally and externally, by facilitating communication and creating a climate that fosters mutual understanding. The Rutgers Parents Association will implement programs and services that inform parents and families about valuable resources, critical issues, and topics relevant to student success.  Additionally, the association will design and sponsor programs that promote parent and family involvement in the life of the university and create opportunities for participation in their student's experience.

For the past 37 years, Schneider has served the university in a variety of roles.  He has been an academic instructor, a Rutgers football coach, a dean of academic and student programs, and for the last 19 years the dean of students at Cook College. His accomplishments as dean of students include the development of the Cook College Leadership Development Program and the Cook College Parents Association.

Schneider received his three academic degrees from Rutgers: a B.S. from the College of Agriculture and Environmental Science, an M.S. from the Graduate School, and an Ed.D. from the Graduate School of Education.

While an undergraduate, Schneider was captain of the 1969 Centennial Football Team and a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He is active in several Rutgers alumni associations and the Cook College Parents Association, and he is vice president of the Rutgers Football Letter Winners Association.  He has been inducted into the Rutgers Football Hall of Fame, twice was the Cook College Baccalaureate Speaker, earned the George Hammell Cook Distinguished Alumni Award, and in 2005 received the Rutgers University Alumni Federation Meritorious Service Award.
