Team from Rutgers’ Newark campus takes first place
NEWARK, NJ — On April 25, a team of undergraduate students from Rutgers Business School’s Newark campus won the 2008 Rutgers Business School Accounting Case Competition, which was sponsored by Ernst & Young.
In reaching their victory, the winning students outperformed 43 other teams from Rutgers Business School. A school-wide event designed to increase interaction among the accounting majors on both campuses, all students enrolled in Intermediate Accounting II competed.
Members of the first-place team are Marinel Stancu, Majed Saada, Juan Espiritu, Rafal Tkacz, German Vineque, and Ifran Mussa.
Alexander J. Sannella, Rutgers Business School Associate Professor of Accounting, Business Ethics and Information Systems, served as Faculty Advisor to the winning team and assisted in organizing the teams participating from the Newark campus of Rutgers.
Yoel Beniluz, Assistant Professor of Accounting, Business Ethics, and Information Systems, co-organized the competition and advised teams based at Rutgers University’s New Brunswick campus. Professor Beniluz was solely responsible for implementing all event logistics as well as organizing the teams participating from the New Brunswick campus.
Said Professor Sannella, “Comments and feedback from business professionals represent an invaluable contribution to our students' education. This is why we believe all students come out as winners in this type of competition.”
Each team was evaluated by a panel of three to four accounting professionals, for a total of 29 judges including senior managers and partners from distinguished accounting firms such as Amper; Crowe Chizek; Deloitte; Ernst & Young; JH Cohn; KPMG; PricewaterhouseCoopers; Rothstein Kass & Co.; Sobel and Company; and Wilken & Guttenplan.
