This spring will mark the first full season for Rutgers University–Camden sports teams competing at the new Camden Athletic Complex, which opened last May. Five years in the making, after the Rutgers University Board of Governors approved the investment of $7.5 million for the complex, the multipurpose athletic facility has fields and accommodations for Rutgers–Camden’s NCAA Division III and club teams competing in baseball, softball, lacrosse, and track and field. The opening comes at an opportune time: the track-and-field team has never had a home at Rutgers–Camden, and the baseball team has been forced to play extensively on the road in recent years. The complex is located on the former site of Campbell’s Field and borders the Camden waterfront. The athletic fields are available to the Camden community, too; Camden County owns the property and manages operations. “These playing fields provide a home base for our NCAA and club sports,” said Rutgers–Camden chancellor Antonio Tillis. “This complex also provides the families of Camden and Camden County with opportunities to exercise, play, and build healthy communities. I am excited to know that community teams will play on the same fields and run on the same track as our Scarlet Raptors. Everybody wins.”
