“Power and Protest in New Jersey -- 50 Years After Rebellion in Camden: Recovering Histories, Exploring Memory.”
Friday April 21, 2023
Rutgers Law School, Camden
“Power and Politics in New Jersey — 50 Years After Rebellion in Camden,” commemorates and critically inquires into the linked histories and memories of the 1971 rebellions in Camden, New Jersey – one against state violence in policing and one against the Vietnam War. Spring 2023 is the fifty-year anniversary of the two trials that adjudicated the outcome of the uprisings, and this event uses the anniversary to explore how Camden, New Jersey, became a site for these rebellions, what the uprisings meant at the time, and the ways in which they produced long-term effects on New Jersey and the nation.
