Students, faculty and staff will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a wide range of cultural and educational activities across the university, including screenings, performances and lectures, with some hosted virtually.

New Brunswick

September 22, 5 p.m. Join the Center for Latin American Studies for their welcome reception with food, music and more. Lucy Stone Hall, Seminar Room A266, Livingston Campus. No registration required.

September 25, 2 p.m. Presented in partnership with the Latino Student Council as part of National Hispanic Heritage Month, Celebrating Our Roots seeks to welcome new and returning students and recognize the rich and diverse identities that shape the Latinx experience in the United States and around the world. Learn more and register.

October 12, 5:30 p.m. Watch a screening of El Special, the uplifting debut by film director Ignacio Marquez, presented by the Center for Latino Arts and Culture in partnership with the Department of Latino and Caribbean Studies. No registration required.

Newark

September 20, 9 p.m. An opportunity for gentlemen who are interested in La Unidad Latina to come and meet the Hermanos, learn about the organization and fully understand what it means to be a leader on campus. Open to all students. No registration required. PRCC Middlesex 224 or attend via Webex.

September 22, 7 p.m. Word on the Street (Business Edition): Minorities in Their Fields will feature a panel of five alumni from different organizations who are currently in the business professional world, as they discuss the difficulties and struggles minorities face when pursuing a career in business and all of the careers that fall under that umbrella. PRCC Bergen East 27.

September 25, 9 p.m. Join Dominican Talks during their Instagram live aimed at sharing more about history of Dominican Republic, the origin of many of the country's cultural dishes and the people within the community.

October 11, all day. Join Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc. for Spanish vs. American rap, which will show the history of Spanish and American rap in our society. Contact the fraternity for more information.

October 14, all day. Attend the Latinx Leads On-Site Conference, which will include training and facilitation sessions on the topic of diversity and inclusion within the context of Latinidad. Contact the Intercultural Resource Center for more information.

Camden

October 13, 12:45 p.m. Rutgers-Camden’s Division of Diversity, Inclusion and Civic Engagement (DICE) will welcome civil rights activist Sylvia Mendez for a virtual keynote address as part of the October DICE Master Class speaker series. Register at the event page.

October 20, 5:30 p.m. The Latino Students Association will host “Latino Taste,” a buffet showcasing multicultural flavors. Campus Center, main floor Multi-Purpose Room.
