Rutgers–Camden Theater Program Hosts Student-Directed One-Act Play Festival

The Rutgers University–Camden theater program will kick off its fall 2015-16 season with a series of plays in the annual Student-Directed One-Act Play Festival.

Performances, which are free and open to the public, will be held in the Black Box Studio Theater on the Rutgers–Camden campus at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, Friday, Oct. 9, and Saturday, Oct. 10.

This year, the festival brings to life three short comedies by renowned playwrights David Ives, Jose Rivera, and Julia Jordan.

The festival is entirely directed, performed, and produced by Rutgers–Camden students.

The plays and performers, along with hometowns and high schools attended, are as follows:

“Nightswim,” by Julia Jordan, directed by senior theater major Alexis Cabrera, a resident of Camden and a graduate of Camden Academy Charter High School.

“Tape,” by Jose Rivera, directed by senior theater major Alex Scheinberg, a resident of Collingswood and a graduate of Collingswood High School.

“The Mystery at Twicknam Vicarage” by David Ives, directed by junior English and education major Bill Epstein, a resident of Glen Rock and a graduate of Glen Rock High School.

James Mobley, technical director of the theater program at Rutgers–Camden, is the set and lighting designer. Sound design is by Stefán Örn Arnarson, technical theater coordinator at Rutgers–Camden.

Admission is free. Seating is limited. Tickets are available by contacting the Impact Booth in the Rutgers–Camden Campus Center at 856-225-6211, as well as at the box office beginning two hours prior to curtain time.
