Rutgers University–Camden will host a free, public lecture series in celebration of LGBT History Month in October.

Tuesday, Oct. 13 (3 to 4:20 p.m.)

Kelly Dittmar, an assistant professor of political science at Rutgers–Camden, and Perry Dane, a professor at Rutgers Law School, will speak on “SCOTUS Same-Sex Marriage and 2016 Political Campaigns,” in the faculty lounge on the third floor of Armitage Hall. The two will discuss the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on same-sex marriage from a legal perspective and the implications of this ruling on the 2016 political campaigns.

Tuesday, Oct. 20 (3 to 4:20 p.m.)

Lead Trainer Phantazia Washington of The Bryson Institute at the Attic Youth Center in Philadelphia will discuss “Best Practices in Collaborative and Comprehensive Health Care for LGBT Youth and Young Adults” in the faculty lounge on the third floor of Armitage Hall. Washington will discuss health issues relevant to the young LGBT community, social service and healthcare collaborations and best practices for LGBT youth and young adults, and future directions.

Tuesday, Oct. 27 (6:30 to 8:30 p.m.)

Katie Eyer, an assistant professor at Rutgers Law School; Sherman Leis, a professor and chair of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and director of The Philadelphia Center for Transgender Surgery; Andrea Bowen, executive director of Garden State Equality; and Jaymie Campbell, professional development manager for the Mazzoni Center will speak on “Transgender Medicine, Discrimination, and the Law” in the South BC conference rooms in the Campus Center. The discussion will explore transgender medicine, including guidance toward and performance of transgender surgery; discrimination and bias facing transgender people; legal constraints; and advocacy for removing medical coverage barriers.

The Campus Center is located on Third Street and Armitage Hall is located on Fifth Street, both between Cooper Street and the Benjamin Franklin Bridge on the Rutgers–Camden campus.
