CAMDEN Haddonfield resident Mat Wright has been honored with the Barrymore Award for Outstanding Music Direction by the Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia.
Wright was named co-musical director with Aaron Cromie, a joint recipient of the award honoring their production of The Fantasticks, at the Mum Puppettheatre while he was finishing his coursework as a double-major in French and theatre at Rutgers UniversityCamden. In his role at the Mum Puppettheatre, the Rutgers-Camden alumnus also served as rehearsal pianist, performance pianist, and vocal director.
I was aided in most of my roles by the cast, who were already terrific vocalists that knew the material from the first rehearsal and by Aaron Cromie, a great musician himself, says Wright.
The 2007 Rutgers-Camden graduate is currently earning a masters degree in directing at Temple Universitys School of Communications and Theater, where he is also the assistant director for the musical Into the Woods. He has also been appointed director of Philadelphia Young Playwrights Saturday Play-Reading at Barnes & Noble in Philadelphia and will also serve as musical director for Thoroughly Modern Millie at the Ritz Theatre Company in Oaklyn.
Wright graduated from Newton High School in Newton in 2002.
