Associate Professor Karima Bennoune can comment on terrorism and international law, religious extremism, Afghanistan, and international human rights. She serves on the board of directors of Amnesty International−USA and the board of trustees of the Center for Constitutional Rights. Her human rights field missions have included Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Lebanon, Pakistan, South Korea, southern Thailand, and Tunisia. Her publications have appeared in leading international law journals and have been widely cited, including by the UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women.

Clinical Professor Penny Venetis, Associate Director of the Constitutional Litigation Clinic, can comment on civil liberties and international human rights issues. She is lead counsel in Jama v. U.S., which is the only case to find that U.S. officials, corporations doing business in the U.S., and their employees may be sued for violating non-treaty-based customary international law based on abuses committed in the U.S. She was previously with OMelveny & Myers in New York where she was involved in a number of human rights and civil rights projects in the U.S., Bosnia, and South America.

Clinical Professor Sandy Freund, Co-Director of the Federal Tax Law Clinic, can comment on the tax aspects of casualty losses resulting from acts of terror. Before joining Rutgers, she was a docket attorney with the Internal Revenue Service, Office of Chief Counsel, in Manhattan. As part of her Rutgers clinical practice, she works with local immigration attorneys to alert them to tax issues affecting low-income immigrants.

Staff Attorney Richard Webster of the Environmental Law Clinic can comment on the vulnerability of certain nuclear power plants to terrorist attacks. He has litigated the relicensing of New Jerseys Oyster Creek plant, the countrys oldest operating commercial reactor. Besides a J.D., he holds a B.A. in physics and a masters in engineering hydrology. Before law school, he spent 10 years as an environmental consultant. Most recently he was an associate in the environmental practice group at Arnold & Porter LLP in New York.
