CAMDEN The appointment of Robert L. Ciervo as director of the Learning Resource Center at Rutgers UniversityCamden is announced by Margaret Marsh, dean of the Rutgers-Camden Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

In his new position, Ciervo, 37, will deliver academic support services for undergraduate students at the Camden campus of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. He will counsel students on overcoming such challenges to learning as test anxiety, and will help students to develop effective learning strategies.

The Rutgers-Camden Learning Resource Center provides peer tutoring to help students succeed in such diverse subject areas as algebra, calculus, computer science, chemistry, financial accounting, macroeconomics, biology, and statistics.

Prior to his arrival at Rutgers-Camden, Ciervo served as director of academic strategies and services and director of the Learning Center, both at Drexel University, where he implemented strategies in student advising, counseling, retention, and academic outreach. He also has served as director of academic support for student-athletes at Temple University and as senior athletic academic advisor at Rutgers-New Brunswick.

He has taught at Drexel and Holy Family University, both in Philadelphia.

In 1990, Ciervo received his bachelors degree in psychology from the University of Pittsburgh, where he was a member of the cross-country and track teams. He then attended Temple University, where he earned his masters (1994) and doctoral degrees (1998).

Ciervo resides in Newtown, Pa., with his wife, Cindy, and their four-month-old daughter, Ella.
