Support for Faculty & Staff

Faculty will find a wealth of resources at Rutgers to support the many phases of their research endeavors, from preparing a proposal and finding funding to managing an award and adhering to integrity and compliance regulations.

Rutgers research is supported by the nation’s leading governmental agencies, corporations, and foundations as well as state and local public and private sources. Externally sponsored research, grants, and contracts at Rutgers totaled $391.8 million in 2009, including $268.4 million in federal grants.

 
Office of the Vice President for Research and Graduate and Professional Education

The Office of the Vice President for Research and Graduate and Professional Education promotes excellence in research at Rutgers and provides oversight for the education of the next generation of researchers. The office contains resources for helping faculty identify external grant opportunities and awards and strategize on obtaining external funding. The office also awards internal funds to seed new research projects and supports faculty scholarly activities.

Office of Research and Sponsored Programs

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs on Rutgers’ three campuses helps faculty successfully compete for grant funding from government, foundation, and private entities. Sponsored research offices aid in submitting proposals electronically, complying with proposal requirements, approving research protocols involving animals or human subjects, and more.

Office of Proposal Development

The Office of Proposal Development assists faculty with the development of research proposals. It offers seminars on proposal writing and hosts visitors from federal agencies. The office specializes in helping new faculty find their first grants, such as NSF CAREER awards; in helping obtain federal grants for fellowships, scholarships, and equipment; and in coordinating large team awards.

Office of Technology Commercialization

The Office of Technology Commercialization offers faculty advice and services regarding inventions, intellectual property, patents, and material transfer agreements. The office markets faculty technology resulting in licenses and corporate sponsored projects and assists faculty in starting companies.

Center for Innovative Ventures of Emerging Technologies

The Center for Innovative Ventures of Emerging Technologies educates faculty and students about the entrepreneurial process. Through cutting-edge programs, activities, and workshops across multiple disciplines, students and faculty gain a greater understanding of how innovation can address real-world needs. The center also facilitates connections between Rutgers scientists and industry.

Rutgers University Foundation

Build a partnership with Corporate and Foundation Relations to create connections to corporate, foundation, and other funding sources. Get help writing grants and take advantage of networking opportunities with potential research supporters.

Environmental Health and Safety

The office of Environmental Health and Safety provides guidelines and safety measures in such areas as chemical-waste management, radiation safety, biosafety services, and more.

Office of Instructional and Research Technology

The Office of Instructional and Research Technology’s Faculty First program saves you time. OIT staff tracks down the information technology resources you need to support research and instruction.
