When StemCyte Inc., one of the world’s largest umbilical cord blood stem cell banks, moved its executive offices from California to New Jersey, the primary draw was Dr. Wise Young, a world-renowned neuroscientist and founding director of Rutgers’ W.M. Keck Center for Collaborative Neuroscience. Rutgers and StemCyte are collaborating on a spinal cord injury therapy in development by Dr. Young that uses StemCyte’s proprietary human umbilical cord blood stem cells and is currently in clinical trials. StemCyte CEO Kenneth J. Giacin calls Dr. Young “one of the smartest guys in the world.”
