A Path to Reach Your Potential

Educational Opportunity Fund

The Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) program at Rutgers offers financial and academic support for distinctive New Jersey students whose economic and educational circumstances have put them at a disadvantage.

About 600 new EOF students enroll at Rutgers each fall. They come from backgrounds that reflect family histories of low income, and they exhibit determination and strong evidence for potential success in college.

A History of Support and Opportunity

The Educational Opportunity Fund in New Jersey was established in 1968 as the state sought to address inequalities in higher education for minorities and other disadvantaged groups.

More than 40 years later, 12,000 students at more than 50 colleges and universities across the state participate in the program. While the initial focus was on racial and ethnic disparities, the program now concentrates on those students with an economic need.

How EOF Will Help You

The Summer Institute

A five-, six-, or seven-week EOF summer program eases your transition from high school to college. The summer program includes everything from workshops on career planning and stress management to a variety of social and recreational activities.

Advising/Counseling/Support

A host of tutorial services and a special staff of academic, career, and peer counselors are ready to help out. A counselor will work with you, one-on-one, to understand your needs and help you make decisions about how to take advantage of everything Rutgers has to offer.

Financial Assistance

EOF students receive both TAGs (Tuition Aid Grants) and EOF grants from the State of New Jersey. In addition, qualified students are eligible to receive grant assistance from the federal government and Rutgers.

The individual attention and financial aid I received made all the difference. My EOF counselor’s door was always open, and she became a real mentor.
