For a doctoral student seeking to study the behind-the-scenes workings of the arts industry, what better place than the School of Public Affairs and Administration (SPAA) at Rutgers University–Newark—just a short train ride from the cultural offerings of New York City.
“Where else in the U.S. can you find more artists and arts organizations than in the New York metropolitan area?” says Mirae Kim.
And she should know. Kim’s educational adventure has been a particularly international one—a bachelor’s degree from Seoul National University in South Korea, a yearlong exchange program in New Zealand, and a master’s degree from Carnegie Mellon University. Now at Rutgers–Newark, Kim is taking advantage of the university’s breadth of opportunities by working on a web-based art project, publishing research in leading journals, and editing a magazine.
